Technical Support: Portable LCD
99.9% of ALL reported problems are finger trouble! We can sort almost all problems out over the phone; try following the Q & A below and if you are having no luck then give us a call.
____________________________________________________________________________________
POWER
Q: Why do I have no picture on the LCD screen?
A: Ensure the monitor is turned on.
A: Ensure there a power supply connected to the XLR4 / 2.1mm DC socket.
A: (7" screens) Ensure the power switch is set to the correct source ie XLR-4 or battery
A: Ensure there is a fully charged battery on the adapter.
A: Ensure the battery adapter socket is connected into the plug on the monitor.
NOTE: The LEDs will be on if there is power applied to the monitor and the screen will briefly flash (backlight starting) when power is applied.
Q: The LEDs are on / backlight is glowing; why do I still have no picture on the LCD screen?
A: (7" screens) Ensure the cable is connected to the right input.
A: (7" screens) Ensure the input selection switch is in the right position.
A: Ensure all the picture controls are set mid way.
A: Ensure there is a picture coming down the cable.
SUGGESTION: You can check there is a picture on the cable by connecting the cable into a different monitor or an oscilloscope.
A: (5.6", 5.8" & 7" screens only) Ensure the push button switch at the back is "out" for a PAL/NTSC signal, or "in" for an SDI signal.
MOUNTING
Q: Why doesn't the monitor stay fixed in its carry case?
A: Fix and tighten the two knobs through the holes in the carry case the monitor inside.
Q: Why won't the knobs tighten the monitor to the monitor stand / carry case.
A: The threaded bush in the side of the case has been damaged by over tightening or by being dropped.
LCD SCREENS
Q: Why is the angle of view on the LCD screen very poor?
A: Ensure the brightness is not turned down.
A: Ensure the screen is not being viewed too far to the left or right of the operator.
NOTE: This question usually comes up from system integrators installing an LCD in a fixed position for the first time, to the spec of a customer who was trained using conventional tube monitors. They turn the brightness of the LCDs down to match the CRTs and position the LCD in unrealistic positions, very often in sound booths.
SUGGESTION: An operator can only realistically look at an LCD directy in the field of view in front of them. At a coorect viewing distance this is no more than 1m wide. If more are needed wider apart, then position the outer ones at an angle, similar to that of a semi-circle.
Q: Why do I not have a 16/9 picture?
A: Is the LCD screen 16/9?
NOTE: If it is a 4/3 screens, a 16/9 picture will be displayed "squashed". 4/3 LCD screens do not display 16/9 pictures in letterbox format like CRT screens.
Q: Why do I have a faulty pixel or two?
A: Unfortunately no LCD manufacturer in the World can produce a pixel fault free screen 100% of the time.
Q: Why are there are solid white vertical lines on my screen?
A: This is a fault of the screen and it will need to be replaced. This has only ever happened when the monitor has been dropped and the screen damaged internally. This is not a warranty repair.
PICTURE CONTROL
Q: (7" screens) I have a PAL/NTSC picture on the screen. Why is it really bright and why don't the picture control trimmers make much difference?
A: Ensure that the LCD input is 75ohm terminated.
NOTE: If the signal ends at the monitor ie the loop through is not being used, then you terminate the unit by using a 75ohm BNC terminator on the output BNC socket of the OZL1700 / OZL1701 monitors or the slide switch on the OZL1702 monitor, or the piano switch on the OZL7000 monitors.
Q: Why are the "Colour, Contrast and Tint" picture controls not working in SDI mode?
A: Only the brightness works in SDI mode as the LCD screen is displaying a high quality RGB component signal.
Q: I have a PAL picture on the screen. Why is the Tint picture control not working?
A: Tint only works for NTSC pictures.
SDI (5.6", 5.8" and OZL7001/8)
Q: Why can't I display an SDI signal?
A: Ensure you have an SDI version (check the back for a handwritten part number).
A: Ensure the push button switch at the back is "in" for an SDI signal.
A: (OZL7001/8 only) Ensure the SDI input is on the A input.
Q: Why doesn't the SDI signal lock?
A: If the SDI is a 60Hz source (used in NTSC countries) then ensure the the piano switch is in the correct position.
A: Ensure you are are not trying to loop the SDI signal incorrectly by using a BNC "T-piece".
Q: (OZL7001/8 only) Why can't I loop the SDI signal.
A: Although these models have BNC outputs, the SDI loop through feature is not installed in these versions.
SDI (OZL1700 / OZL1701 / OZL1702)
Q: Why can't I display an SDI signal?
A: Ensure you have the SDI expansion box firmly connected to the Expansion socket.
A: Ensure the slide switch for the B input at the back of the monitor is positioned to "expansion".
A: Ensure the A/B input selection slide switch on the face of the expansion box is positioned correctly.
Q: Why doesn't the SDI signal lock?
A: If the SDI is a 60Hz source (used in NTSC countries) then ensure the slide switch on the face of the expansion box is in the correct position.
A: Ensure you are are not trying to loop the SDI signal incorrectly by using a BNC "T-piece".
NOTE: Call Teletest on SDI problems as it can be quite complicated to explain on paper!
